Free art supplies for non-profit organizations

You crafted a wonderful event and created a powerful tool for change. You honored the children and their families in a way that made a lasting impression. You honored teachers by offering us tangible help to do the best job we can.

You honored businesses and corporations by giving them a chance to build community where none existed before. I would love to see more hands-on involvement between corporate partners and our Fresh Artists! Fresh Artists has created this innovative and highly effective conversation…with everyone benefiting.

Please let me know how I can help. Urban art teachers receive a fraction of the funding of their suburban counterparts. While that does not limit our students' originality, this lack of access does limit their possibilities. Thanks to this wonderful surprise Angel Art Grant, my classes will be participating in the 'Print Links Philadelphia' project this year using authentic printing screens and inks instead of recycled lunch trays and tempera paints!

Fresh Artists is a visionary nonprofit initiative. Businesses get stunning art at unknown-artist prices, student artists achieve "published artist" status and know they are helping other children, and art teachers receive art supplies like manna from Heaven.

Fresh Artists is our entrepreneurial art angel! SAP is a very community-minded corporation and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with and organization such as Fresh Artists. This is an extraordinary program that supports young artists throughout our area, and now the country, providing them with a creative outlet that may otherwise be unfulfilled.

The feedback from our employees about the young artists' work has been very positive, not only because they enjoy the images but also because it shows how SAP America contributes to local schools and communities. Many believe that giving children opportunities to share their varied talents will bring them positive emotional reinforcement that they might not get otherwise.

Fresh Artists is not only giving the students hope for a bright future, but also teaching them to be philanthropic and this is inspiring to us all.

Inner city or rural, schools in poor communities receive short shrift. This doubles down on the problem because these are the kids who need a brilliant public education more than any others. They have nowhere to turn, no ways to compensate for the screaming deficiencies in books, technology, and the arts.

Fresh Artists has found an efficient and effective solution. We receive so many positive comments from employees who thoroughly enjoy coming to work and seeing the art, knowing who produced it.

Any yelling, cursing, or demeaning of our staff will result in having your membership revoked. If you take items for your own personal use, or to sell online, then you are committing a crime.

Your membership can be revoked at any time if our staff believes that there is good cause. There has always been a processing fee to have access to the free resource center. Over the course of the pandemic, Art of Recycle had waived the fee and covered the expenses of processing memberships with the EIDL loan, because we wanted to help organizations to keep their programs going throughout the pandemic.

It was a good decision, because we did keep important programs up and running. We are now out of funds, and can no longer keep the program running without teachers and organizations pitching in again to help the program to continue.

We are also enforcing the fee and putting a cap on how many items a person can take from the center based on their needs because people have been abusing our program and using the resource center to collect items to sell. Our membership application is now a digital form that helps us to track our resources quickly and more efficiently.

The clipboards are being replaced with a digital form that will be easier to track educators needs as well as our inventory. The new digital infrastructure will help us to ensure our donors that the materials that they are donating are indeed going to classrooms and non-profits and not being taken by resellers who are trying to profit off of our program and our staffs hard work.

How did we come up with the number 35? Our staff spends an average of 8 hours a day processing memberships, up to two hours per person. However, we understand that the people receiving the services that your organization or school is providing them with Need those services and deserve the best that their community can do for them.

There is no program in the entirety of the United States, or in the world, that is providing any programs similar to what Art of Recycle is doing, without grants and large funders. Those programs that do exist are temporary programs that only last until their funding runs out.

No one has been able to make these forms of programs sustainable, except Art of Recycle. Copyright © Art of Recycle ® - All Rights Reserved. Chances are they are routinely pitching scrap wood in small sizes and shapes into a dumpster. Offer to bring a large box to their place of business, and have your students decorate the outside with pictures and requests for scraps.

With a little luck, you will be able to arrange a semi-regular pick-up schedule, loading your vehicle with free sculpture wood for your students. The manager of your local recycling plant is definitely the holy grail of who to know when it comes to supply donation.

This person is routinely contacted to recycle odd items for the business community. Many times these items are not junk, they are no longer needed at that location. This is very different from the bags of pop cans and used copy paper that you normally see in a typical recycling bin. Ask your recycling center if they would be open to contacting you for a pick-up if art worthy items arrive from a company in good condition.

This strategy has produced huge rolls of unused newsprint from a printing business , large scale flat cardboard panels , and even rolls of sheet metal copper for my classroom.

These supplies were unused, valuable, and all were totally free. Take a moment to reflect on what your family, friends, and neighbors do for a living because your best donor might be somebody you already know!

When we started our craft sessions with guys at a homeless hostel , we had virtually no budget and had to rely on cheap pound shop craft supplies to decorate the printables we were using.

Little did we know what was about to happen! I made a simple post on Facebook about broadening our reach to other disadvantaged groups, and one of our Designers, ArdaCards, asked if we needed any supplies since she had a few bits and bats that she could send - wow!

Yes, please! Quickly after that, another lady offered to send us some unwanted freebies from magazines, templates, die cuts etc. This was fantastic! She also shared the post to her own crafting group and from there, we had another 2 ladies who said they could send things to us - including a Grand Calibur!

Parcels were coming thick and fast from friends and strangers. As part of our new Crafting4Good social enterprise, we had planned to accept craft donations further down the line because we were aware that a lot can go to waste see below.

The idea was to do it when we had space to store, sort and organise it, but it was suddenly happening NOW and I wasn't going to say no. Bring those donations on! Soon we had people contacting me to send their unwanted craft supplies - those that are old, outdated, no longer 'on trend', languishing in cupboards and drawers, the fruits of a de-clutter or papers, die cuts and offcuts they don't want and will never use.

We've had rubber stamps, die-cutting templates, die cutting machines, decoupage sheets, pens, inks all of this is fantastic and the more the merrier - the more we have, the more people we can help with creative sessions in the community. If we get stuff we can't make use of, we can pass it on to other community groups and social enterprises that can use them.

Having received these donations, we were able to take lots of goodies to our homeless craft sessions and the guys had much more to get creative with - including discovering decoupage and adult colouring! In the early stages of our evolution, we noticed that children thought they had won a prize when we invited them to donate their artwork.

They were unaware of the ripple effect their generosity would have on others. All Fresh Artists' children receive a copy of Pablo, the Philly Philanthropist, an illustrated book that chronicles the path of an eight-year-old boy whose art has been chosen by Fresh Artists.

Also, we present each artist-philanthropist with a set of two, small identical art kits — one to keep and one to give to another child. Giving to other people makes you feel good inside My art is the perfect way.

Through it, Fresh Artists will keep giving and giving — maybe for 50 years. Maybe for years. Maybe forever. This makes me feel good. This year my principal gave me zero money for supplies.
