Each fall, garden tools should be thoroughly cleaned and stored out of the weather during the winter. This is also the ideal time to consider replacing gently worn tools or upgrading the most used items in preparation for the next season.

Rather than disposing of these older, used gardening tools, consider donating tools to charity so that others may benefit from them.

The decision to donate garden equipment is a win-win scenario for all involved. Giving away garden tools to underserved members of the community not only reduces material waste, but also provides valuable resources and improves employment opportunities for those with limited skill sets.

Though non-profit organizations which specialize in fixing and distributing used garden implements do exist, they are not common. It is best to make certain that all items are in safe, working condition before donating tools to charity.

While items such as shovels and hand tools are most commonly accepted, gardeners who choose to donate garden equipment also include tillers, cultivators, and even lawn mowers. When giving away garden tools, you are able to give new meaning to items that would otherwise be considered waste.
